Yaad.

Hello lovely folks!

I’m still having the w o r s t withdrawals after comig back from Jamaica a couple of weeks ago.

For those of you who haven’t seen my obnoxious nationalism manifest somewhere on the interwebs, I am both Jamaican and Bajan. While I was in Barbados just a couple of years ago, I hadn’t visited Jamaica in 14 years before this trip.

I know. Repulsive. It was a nightmare.

I was beyond excited for this trip because my grandfather’s side of the family had faciilitated a huge family reunion- and my family is h u g e. Seriously. It puts “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” to shame. Aside from seeing family, I always gain a warm sense of self when I’m in the Caribbean. Maybe it’s the ackee and saltfish, maybe it’s the gorgeous beaches, maybe it’s the sunlight- but I feel phenomenal when I’m home. Hence my title “yaad”.

I stayed with my aunt, her husband, my grandparents, my sister and my mother while I was there for the first week. It was so refreshing to be around family and get to know everybody.

I ate well and soaked up as much sun as I could.

I was hoping this trip would aid in some creative flow and thankfully, it really did. It was scalding hot while we were there and I had next to no internet access, so I honestly wanted to be lounging in minimal clothing 99.9% of the time- but the creative flow saved me 😭.

With that being said, I give you Yaad. This one’s close to home. I shot it right in the beautiful space my aunt let me steal for the week. I hope you catch the ~*caribbean vibesz*~.
